3 Things Every Educator Should Do During the Summer Break

Posted on June 22 , 2022

Becoming an Educator is a noble professional choice. It comes with great satisfaction from day to day, but the school year can bring its challenges as well. Whenever the school year ends and summer break begins, it presents an opportunity for Educators to take time away from the hustle and bustle of their Educator roles and responsibilities. Below are 3 things that Educators can do to enhance the time spent away from the school building and students and take care of themselves.

1. Schedule Nothing

After a long and often stressful school year, we as Educators, need to turn everything off: our alarms, our emails, our phones, our calendars and plan to take a day or two to just do nothing. This will allow you to clear your mind of the ups and downs you experienced throughout the school year and just relax. If anyone deserves a moment of peace it is a hard working, dedicated Educator.

2. Reflect

After spending time doing nothing, which is often really hard to do after winding down from a busy school year, it is time to reflect. Reflecting on the things that went well over the past year can really boost your mood and help you to feel satisfaction in you achievements and successes. Reflecting on things that could have been better is not a time to dwell on your challenges, it is an opportunity to consider alternative ways to approach a situation so that next time, the outcome is better. There is a lot of value in reflection, but it is most valuable with a clear and renewed mind.

3. Have Fun!

Summer is a great time to let your hair down and explore activities that you were not able to participate in throughout the year for various reasons. If you live in a region with cold weather during most of the year, this is a time to move about town more freely. If you like to travel to other areas of the country or the world, it is a great time to interact with other travelers and have fun!

The summer break always seems to end before we know it, so be sure to take time to renew, reflect and regenerate by using these 3 tips. It will ensure you make the most of your time off and you will likely start the new school year with a positive outlook. These tips can also be used during any break throughout the year when you need a reset. Happy Summer Break!
